It all began in about 1997. Leo Skorin, DO and two of his colleagues discussed the concept of a more comprehensive ophthalmic manual that expanded on the ones in print at that time. They felt that this type of book, one that is more in-depth but simultaneously easy to use and reference, would fill a much-needed niche. So these three editors-to-be developed and refined their concept. They presented their idea to Wolters Kluwer/LWW (formally Lippincott). The well-known and respected medical publisher agreed to proceed with the project.

The AOCOO-HNS Foundation Board of Directors approved a recommendation brought by the Foundation Advisory Committee (FAC). Because of funding cuts within hospitals, Drs. Paul Imber and Jack Alway realized there was a need to support PGY 2 & 3 ophthalmology residents and PGY 3 & 4 otolaryngology residents pay for their continuing education. Drs. The U.S. Senate passed the House version of Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) legislation Wednesday night, tripling the time allotted for small businesses and other PPP loan recipients to spend the funds and still qualify for forgiveness of the loans.

The bill passed in a unanimous voice vote hours after Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson initially blocked it. Among the key provisions is a change in the threshold for the amount of PPP funds required to be spent on payroll costs to qualify for forgiveness to 60% of the loan amount.
